The Mission

At Swuush, our mission is to make everyday hygiene in the Netherlands cleaner, healthier, and kinder to the planet. We champion modern bidets as a simple upgrade to personal care. Many studies have been conducted, which encourage us to reach a consensus that bidets lower infection risk, reduce irritation, dramatically cut toilet paper use, saving money and the environment while keeping bathrooms fresh. Our mission is to become essential to our consumers by providing high-quality bidets and guidance on how to use them. At Swuush, we hold tightly to the notion of never underestimating the power of a small group of people to change the world. We do not ditch a project because of its difficulty, but rather delight in the challenge by seeing the value of differentiating ourselves.

The Challenge

Dutch households rely on toilet paper for hygiene, which is less effective, irritates sensitive skin, and creates recurring costs and paper waste. Despite clear evidence that bidets are more sanitary, adoption remains low due to misconceptions, cost fears, and perceived installation hassle. Existing bidet options are perceived as expensive, complex to install, or culturally unfamiliar. The problem to address is the negative preconceived notions of bidets. We believe that breaking down the misconception of high costs and difficult installation will be relatively easy. However, the main challenge is the social stigma against bidets. Supplying the products is not the issue; it's the psychology of the consumers.

The solution

Our proposed solution is to break down the social stigmas of bidets by operating carefully curated marketing campaigns that target the psychology of our consumers. Advertisements, micro-influencers and academic research studies will be key determinants in deconstructing the false negative preconceived notions of bidets. To encourage buyer confidence, we will offer a 30-day trial that will allow customers to experience the healthy, hygienic service offered by bidets without pressurising them to commit to a long-term decision. As the real barrier is cultural, we pair the hardware with targeted education and social proof. The installation and operation processes have to be as seamless as possible. Hence, the following components are necessary: a detailed, easy-to-follow manual, an installation video on YouTube, a self-cleaning nozzle so consumers don't worry about cleaning out bacterial infections, and only selling bidets that have the warm, gentle up and down option.
